MARITIME ACTIVITES

       In this catalogue APEAM presents detailed information about the different activities and companies which, within the different delegate commissions, are represented in the common setting of the ports of the balearics, those which are the responsibility of the state and those of our community.

       Our association, with 160 companies, will enter the next millennium having spent 22 years serving the management of the sector, performing tasks of extraordinary interest, not only for its associates but also for our community. Just as an illustration we can quote our most recent ones: the agreements signed with the govern balear last may on making freight leaving the balearics match the costs of road transport, obtaining a 33% discount on inter-island traffic for passengers resident in this community, discounts on the prices of fuels or the reductions in insurance premiums for boats.

       Within the framework of apeam, all the collective agreements have been negotiated for stowage, shipments, custom-house brokers and maritime excusions. The modifications in port tariffs, the plans for the different ports, pilot services and ultimately all those matters of interest to the ports sector are negotiated with the A.P.B.

       The scarcity of port space and the plans to modify its stuctures, in Palma with a new area of 70,000 m2, in Ibiza with the essential botafoc sea wall which cannot be delayed, in Minorca with the agreements between the APB and the Ministry of Defence for the use of the naval base, the construction of a new dock/port in Ciudadela, the construction of a passenger terminal in Alcudia port, the need for moorings for those craft used for nautical charters, etc., These are, without a doubt, cause for constant preoccupation and vigilance on the part of the Association as it is the port space itself which is the common link for all the activities of APEAM.

       It is our reponsibility to maintain quality services for our associates, so that they, in turn, transmit the best service offer to their markets, in operative conditions of space and safety, at competitive prices, with special interest in the prevention of industrial accidents and the environment. We dedicate ourselves to this task, trusting in constant improvement for all the associates, something that we will surely need in the millennium that awaits us.
